Land Rover Discovery Seat Heater Failure: Common Fix Inside
Summary of the thread
A 2019 Land Rover Discovery owner is experiencing a complete failure of the driver's seat heater. A similar issue was previously resolved by replacing a faulty heating mat, which required removing the seat cover and took about half a day. The owner is advised to check the fuse box first and to push for warranty coverage, as the repair might be classified as "wear and tear." The replacement part is noted to be of better quality, and the owner plans to update on the repair outcome.

Thanks for sharing your experience! I'm having this issue with the driver's seat, completely dead, no response at all when I press the button. My Discovery just had its service last month at 140085 KM, and everything else is working fine. I was hoping it might just be a fuse or wiring issue, but from what you're describing, it sounds like I might be looking at a similar heating mat replacement. Really appreciate the heads up about the repair costs and time, helps me know what to expect. Did your warranty cover any of the repair costs? Mine's still technically under the extended warranty, so fingers crossed!

Hey again! Always happy to help out a fellow Land Rover owner. your situation sounds exactly like what I dealt with, especially with that completely dead response. Since yours is showing the same symptoms as mine did, I'd put money on it being the heating mat too. Just to warn you though, even with my 2017 Range Rover being under extended warranty at the time, they initially tried to classify it as "wear and tear" and didn't want to cover it. Had to do some back-and-forth with them before they agreed to cover most of the repair. Definitely push the warranty angle with yours, you're at 140k, but since it's a 2019 model and under extended warranty, you've got a good case. Worth noting that after my repair, the new heating mat has been working perfectly for over a year now. The build quality of the replacement part seemed better than the original, honestly. Quick tip: before you take it in, double-check your fuse box just to rule that out. Would hate for you to pay for a big repair if it's something that simple. Though given the symptoms are identical to what I experienced, I'm betting it's that heating mat. Keep us posted on what you find out! Always curious to hear how these repairs turn out.

Thanks so much for all this detailed info! You're a lifesaver. I just checked the fuse box following your advice, and unfortunately, everything looks fine there. You're probably right about it being the heating mat. I'll definitely take your advice and push hard on the warranty coverage, really good to know about your experience with the "wear and tear" argument they tried to use. I've already called my dealer and booked it in for next week. They mentioned something similar about it taking half a day to fix. Really appreciate you taking the time to share your experience, especially about the replacement part being better quality. That's actually quite reassuring. I'll make sure to update this thread once I get it sorted out so others can benefit from my experience too. Thanks again for all your help!

Hey there! I've got some experience with cars (I'd say moderate level, been working on them as a hobby). I actually had a similar issue with my 2017 Land Rover Range Rover diesel last year. The heating mat in my driver's seat completely died, super annoying, especially when you're used to that warm seat comfort! Took it to my regular workshop and they diagnosed a faulty heating mat. Had to replace the whole thing, which set me back about 390 Euro. The job took about half a day since they needed to remove the seat cover carefully to access the heating element. Which seat is giving you trouble in your Discovery? Driver's or passenger's? Also, does it make any noise when you try to turn it on, or is it completely dead? This info would help figure out if you're dealing with the same problem I had.
