LandCruiser EGR Valve Issue

Thanks for the quick reply. I've pulled the codes, and it's indeed pointing to the EGR valve. Specifically, it's throwing a P0401 code (Insufficient EGR Flow). Did you experience the same code, and if so, were there any other codes present?

Yep, P0401 was the main culprit, plus a few related codes about vehicle emissions being out of spec. I tried cleaning the EGR valve myself, but no dice. I ended up biting the bullet and taking it to a workshop. They confirmed the valve was defective and replaced it. Honestly, it's probably worth getting it checked professionally to prevent further issues. I had a rough time dealing with this. It became very clear, very fast, that a diesel engine could suffer greatly from the most simple of things...

Understood. Thanks for confirming. I'll take it to the workshop to get it sorted. The repair cost is estimated at 355€. It's a relief to know someone else has encountered this and that it is most likely 'just' the EGR valve.

Sounds familiar. I've got a LandCruiser as well, and those symptoms scream EGR valve to me. Especially the hissing and smoke under acceleration. I'd put money on the EGR valve being jammed, likely failing the upcoming emissions test. I've had similar issues. Any luck with the diagnostics? What code is being thrown?
