LandCruiser Jerking and Stalling

My 2013 Toyota LandCruiser with a diesel engine is giving me some grief. It's got about 93k km on the clock. Lately, it's been jerking when I accelerate, and the check engine light keeps popping on. I scanned it and there's an error stored, but I'm also noticing reduced engine power, rough running, and sometimes it even stalls at idle. Plus, there's a strong exhaust smell that wasn't there before. Could it be a dodgy sensor or something more serious?

Summary of the thread

A 2013 Toyota LandCruiser with a diesel engine is experiencing jerking during acceleration, a check engine light, reduced engine power, rough running, stalling at idle, and a strong exhaust smell. These symptoms suggest a potential issue with the intake manifold, possibly due to a leak or scorching. The recommended solution is to replace the intake manifold, with repair costs estimated around 1180€.

Sounds like it could be related to your intake manifold, potentially a leak due to scorching. Are you noticing any black soot around the manifold area? The symptoms you're describing -- jerking, error codes, reduced power, rough idle, exhaust smell – all point to a possible manifold issue. Think of it like a blocked artery restricting the engine's breathing.

Interesting, I hadn't considered the intake manifold. I'll check for soot tomorrow. If it is the manifold, what sort of repair costs am I looking at?

If the intake manifold is indeed leaking due to scorching, it's not just a case of tightening a bolt. It's like trying to patch a cracked pipe with tape – it might hold for a bit, but it's not a permanent fix. You'll probably need a new manifold. Considering parts and labor, budget around 1180€. It's best to get it checked by a workshop to confirm the diagnosis.

Thanks for the insight. I took it to the shop and they confirmed it was indeed the intake manifold. Quoted me pretty much what you said. Getting it fixed. Appreciate the help!
