Boost controller, huh? Interesting. Where is that thing located, and is it something I could potentially check myself, or am I better off taking it to a workshop? I am a bit of a novice when it comes to car repairs, to be honest.

On the Volvo, it was near the turbo. Honestly, unless you're comfortable working around the engine and have some diagnostic tools, I'd suggest getting it checked by a professional. Could save you a lot of hassle in the long run.

Thanks for the advice! Took it to the workshop, and you were spot on – turned out to be a defect in a vacuum switching valve. They replaced it for 140€, and now it's running like a dream again!

Sounds familiar. I had almost the exact same symptoms with my old Volvo XC60. Turned out to be a faulty boost controller. Have you checked for any fault codes?
