Lateral acceleration sensor fault on Mercedes S Klasse

My 2003 Mercedes S Klasse with a diesel engine has an illuminated ABS lamp and a stored error for the lateral acceleration sensor. Could a defective control unit be the cause? Is it possible this component, responsible for Yaw rate and Steering angle, has failed? Is the rumored repair cost of 1000€ accurate?

Summary of the thread

The core problem is an illuminated ABS lamp and a stored error code for the lateral acceleration sensor in a 2003 Mercedes S Klasse. Possible causes include a defective control unit or issues with the sensor itself, which is responsible for Yaw rate and Steering angle. Suggested solutions involve checking the sensor connections for any loose or corroded contacts and considering professional assistance for a thorough diagnosis and repair. Seeking help from a skilled technician is recommended to ensure a swift resolution.

I have a similar Mercedes S Klasse, and I experienced something similar not too long ago. The ABS light would come on intermittently, and the system would occasionally shut down. It was incredibly frustrating. Did you check the connections to the sensor itself? Sometimes a loose or corroded connection can cause these kinds of problems. Did the error code point specifically to the sensor, or was it more general?

The diagnostic code implicates the lateral acceleration sensor directly. I have not yet inspected the connections. Could this cause such a significant system failure? Where is the lateral acceleration sensor located, so I can examine the connections? Is it easily accessible?

I recall the code pointing directly to the sensor as well. Fiddling with the connections didn't solve the problem in the end. I had hoped it would, but alas. If the code is specific, the sensor itself, or the control unit it's connected to, might be the issue. Honestly, I ended up taking mine to a trusted workshop, and they sorted it out. Might be the best course of action to prevent further headaches?
