Hi, I'm having a nightmare with my 2007 Nissan Latio diesel. The ABS lamp lights up and I'm experiencing traction problems. It seems like the ABS system has completely failed. Has anyone else had this issue? I've checked the usual things, but I'm not really a mechanic, just very frustrated...

I had something similar with my Latio. ABS light, traction control going nuts... sounds like a speed sensor fault. Did you get any diagnostic codes read?

Diagnostic codes? No, I haven't done that. Is it something I can check myself, or do I need special equipment? Where's the speed sensor located, and what does it do exactly?

You'll need to get the codes read at a workshop. The speed sensor tells the car how fast each wheel is turning. If the control unit that reads the sensors is defective, that would explain the errors. I had to get the affected control unit replaced.

Thanks! I'll take it to a workshop and have them check the control unit. Sounds like it will be expensive. I've been quoted around 1000€ for the job, but at least it will be fixed!
