Latio Whistling Noise and Power Loss

Hey, I'm having some issues with my 2014 Nissan Latio with a gasoline engine. It's done about 128,000 km. Recently, the check engine light has come on, and the car feels like it's lost a lot of power. It's sluggish to respond when I put my foot down. I've also noticed a whistling noise, almost like a loud hissing sound when accelerating, and sometimes the engine stalls when I'm idling. Fuel consumption has definitely gone up too. I've been doing some digging online, and it seems like it could be a boost pressure actuator fault? Could a defective electrical bypass valve cause all of these symptoms? Any ideas?

Summary of the thread

A 2014 Nissan Latio experienced power loss, sluggish acceleration, a whistling noise, increased fuel consumption, and occasional engine stalling. These symptoms suggested a potential issue with the boost pressure actuator or a defective electrical bypass valve. After consulting a workshop, it was confirmed that the boost pressure actuator was faulty, and the electrical bypass valve was indeed defective, leading to the resolution of the problem.

Did this summary help you solve your problem?

Sounds familiar! I had similar symptoms with my Latio. That whistling and loss of power are dead giveaways. Have you checked the turbo system for any obvious leaks or damage? Is the whistling constant, or does it only happen under certain conditions, like when the turbo is spooling up?

Thanks for the reply! I haven't really looked at the turbo system itself. I'm not very experienced with turbos. I'll try to have a look, but I'm not sure what I'm looking for. Is there an easy way to check the electrical bypass valve? And what do you mean by spooling up?

By spooling up I mean when the turbo is actively boosting. Think of it like a fan starting up – the whistling could be loudest at that moment. Honestly, based on your symptoms, especially the stalling, hissing, and power loss, it really does sound like a faulty boost pressure actuator or a leak in the turbo system. I wouldn't recommend driving it too much like that. It might be best to get it checked out by a workshop; they have the tools to properly diagnose it.

Thanks, I appreciate the advice! I took it to the workshop, and they confirmed it was the boost pressure actuator. The electrical bypass valve was defective, just like I suspected. Cost me 250€ to get it sorted, but at least it's running smoothly again!
