Latitude Automatic Transmission Issue
Summary of the thread
A 2013 Renault Latitude with 236,476 km is experiencing automatic transmission issues, including implausible shifting, slipping, and emergency mode activation, with the transmission indicator light on. The problem may be due to worn-out transmission fluid or undervoltage. It is suggested to check and replace the transmission fluid and inspect error logs for potential issues like defective wheel sensors. After following this advice, the problem was resolved by replacing the hydraulic fluid and resetting error codes.

Yes, sometimes it is slipping; you described it well. I haven't checked the transmission oil recently, to be honest. I didn't even know that transmission wear could cause slipping. I thought slipping indicated a much more serious problem. What does the state tell you?

I understand your concern. In my case, it turned out the be "Undervoltage in the vehicle". I'd recommend taking it to a trusted workshop and have them check the condition and level of the automatic transmission fluid in the Renault. Also check the error logs; The emergency mode can be triggered if a wheel sensor is defective. Changing the hydraulic fluid and checking for error codes might solve the problem. If it doesn't, you could at least rule out the simplest cause. Good luck!

Thanks a lot for the advice! I really appreciate it. I took it to a shop, and the mechanic confirmed it was the transmission fluid. Replacing the hydraulic fluid and resetting the error codes did the trick, and it didn't cost that much – only 240€.

I had a similar issue with my Latitude. Automatic transmissions can be quite sensitive. Does "implausible shifting behavior" mean that it's slipping? Slipping is when the engine revs higher than normal during a gear change, yet there is not a corresponding acceleration. The transmission fluid in an automatic gearbox acts as a hydraulic fluid, is crucial for smooth operation. If it's old or low it can cause all sorts of problems with the automatic gearbox. When was the last time you checked the transmission oil level, and did you check the state?
