Latitude battery drain

Hi, I have a 2011 Renault Latitude with a diesel engine. Lately, the battery keeps getting heavily discharged. I'm seeing an error message in the speedometer, the lights are weak and flickering, and there's an error stored in the error memory. Starting the engine is also a struggle because the battery seems weak. Could this be a simple battery issue or something more complex?

Sounds familiar! I had similar issues with my old Opel Astra. Check the battery sensor. A defective sensor can cause all sorts of weird electrical problems and drain the battery. Have you checked the battery terminals for corrosion or looseness?

Thanks for the quick reply! Where exactly is the battery sensor located, and how would I check if it's defective? I did check the battery terminals, and they seem clean and tight.

On my Astra, it was right next to the battery, connected to the negative terminal. Honestly, without proper testing equipment, it's hard to say definitively if it's faulty. Given all the symptoms, it might be best to have a workshop take a look. Could save you a lot of headache.

Thanks, I appreciate the advice. I took it to a workshop, and you were right – the battery sensor was defective. They replaced it, and the total cost was 315€. Everything seems to be working fine now!
