Thanks for the reply! I did a quick visual inspection of the intercooler hoses, but didn't spot anything obvious. I haven't looked at the boost control solenoid yet. Where exactly is that located, and is there a way to test it myself without specialized tools? Also, yeah, the turbo lag is pretty terrible. It's like waiting for a kettle to boil before you can make a cup of tea.

The boost control solenoid is usually near the turbo. Honestly, without proper diagnostic tools, it's tough to pinpoint the exact cause. Given the symptoms and the turbo lag, it really does sound like a wastegate issue as you initially suspected. It could be stuck open, or not closing properly, hence the loss of boost and whistling. In your shoes, I'd take it to a reputable workshop, let them run diagnostics, and get a proper assessment. I ended up paying 860€ for a repair, but that included parts and labor.

Thanks a lot for the advice! I appreciate you sharing your experience. I'll book it in with a local mechanic and get them to take a look. Hopefully, it's just the wastegate valve. I'll post a resolution once it's sorted.

Hey there, I had a similar problem with my Renault Latitude. It sounds like a boost leak somewhere. The whistling noise and loss of power are dead giveaways. Have you checked the intercooler hoses for any cracks or loose connections? It could also be a problem with the boost control solenoid. It's like a conductor in an orchestra, making sure everyone plays in time. If it's faulty, the whole performance suffers. Is the turbo lag particularly bad?
