Latitude exhaust leak and temperature sensor issue
Summary of the thread
A 2011 Renault Latitude owner experienced a check engine light, reduced engine power, and increased fuel consumption, suspecting an exhaust temperature sensor issue. Another person shared a similar experience, attributing it to an exhaust leak affecting sensor readings. The suggested solution was to inspect the exhaust system for leaks, particularly at joints and welds, and listen for hissing sounds. Ultimately, the owner confirmed a faulty temperature sensor and a minor exhaust leak, which were resolved at a workshop.

Thanks for the quick response! A leak in the exhaust system, huh? I haven't checked that specifically. Where should I be looking, and is it something I can easily spot myself, or do I need to get under the car?

Yeah, definitely get under the car for a good look. Check all the joints and welds in the exhaust pipes. Listen for hissing sounds when the engine is running; that can indicate a leak. Honestly, unless you're comfortable with car exhaust systems, I'd suggest taking it to a workshop. I ended up doing that, and they sorted it quickly.

Okay, I appreciate the advice. I'll take a look underneath, but it sounds like a job for the workshop. Just got the bill - faulty temperature sensor and a small exhaust leak, all in cost 265€. Thanks again!

Sounds familiar! I had a similar problem with my Latitude. Check engine light, power loss, the whole shebang. It turned out to be a leak in the exhaust system causing temperature fluctuation and messing with the heat sensor readings. Have you inspected your exhaust for any signs of damage or rust?
