Latitude fuel pump connection issue

I've got a 2015 Renault Latitude, gasoline engine, with almost 200,000 km on it. Recently, it refuses to start sometimes, stalls out at idle, and the check engine light is on. When it does run, it's rough, and my fuel consumption has skyrocketed. An OBD reader gave me a generic fuel pump error. Could a faulty fuel pump cause all this? I've checked the basics, but I am not sure how to diagnose this further.

Whoa, sounds familiar! I have a Latitude as well, and I had similar problems last year. Stalling, rough running, the whole shebang. Did you check the fuel injector? Might be worth a look before you assume it's the whole fuel pump.

You think it could be just the fuel injector and not the entire fuel pump? What exactly did you do to fix your similar problem? Is it something I could even attempt myself?

Well, it could be. But in my case, it was a defective cable or plug connection to the fuel pump that the mechanic detected. All the symptoms you described matched what I experienced. Honestly, unless you're super comfortable with auto repair, I'd suggest taking it to a workshop. It might save you a lot of headache.

Thanks so much for the advice! I took it to the shop, and you were spot on. Turns out it was indeed a defective connection to the fuel pump, and the repair, including parts and labor, only cost me 95€! You saved me a lot of worry and potentially a fortune if I had just replaced the whole pump.
