Latitude glow plug and check engine light issues
Summary of the thread
A 2012 Renault Latitude diesel is experiencing persistent glow plug and check engine light issues, accompanied by excessive smoke during acceleration. The problem may stem from a faulty glow plug relay, wiring harness, or corroded connections, leading to unburnt fuel and engine performance issues. The recommended solution is to have the vehicle professionally diagnosed and repaired, which resolved the issue by replacing the defective glow control unit and addressing a corroded connector.

Thanks for the tip! Where exactly is the glow plug relay located in the Latitude? And did you also experience rough idling or vehicle stalling in addition to the other issues?

Yes, rough idling was present. I wouldn't recommend continuing driving. In my case, it also seemed to affect cold starts and general engine performance, and the engine would misfire. The best advice I can give is to take it to a workshop and have it checked by a professional. They have the tools to accurately diagnose the issue. After changing the unit, the issue was solved.

You were spot on. Took it to the shop, and it was indeed a defective glow control unit and a corroded connector. 95€ later, all fixed. Thanks for the help!

I had similar symptoms with my Latitude. Check the glow plug relay and wiring harness. A faulty relay can cause the preheating lamp to stay on and trigger the check engine light. The smoke could be from unburnt fuel if the preheating isn't working correctly.
