Leaf Steering Column Failure
Summary of the thread
A 2016 Nissan Leaf experienced a failure in the steering column adjustment, which stopped functioning and stored an error. The issue was suspected to be electrical, possibly due to a defective cable or loose plug connection. Inspection of the wiring harness and connectors, particularly those exposed to moisture or vibration, was recommended. Ultimately, a faulty connector was identified and repaired by a technician, resolving the problem.

Thanks for the quick reply! Corrosion... hadn't thought of that. Where exactly should I be looking? Is there a specific connector that's notorious for causing this, or am I just hunting for anything obvious?

The connectors associated with the steering column adjustment motor and its control module are the primary areas of concern. Trace the wiring harness from the motor, inspecting each connector along the way. While there isn't a universally 'notorious' connector, pay close attention to any that are exposed to moisture or vibration. However, without diagnostic equipment, further troubleshooting may prove challenging. It may be more expedient to consult a qualified technician.

Okay, I hear you. Sounds like I'm at the limit of my driveway diagnostics. Took it to the shop and you were spot on – dodgy connector. 95€ later and it's fixed! Thanks for pointing me in the right direction!

The symptoms you describe suggest a potential disruption in the electrical circuit controlling the steering column adjustment mechanism. It is plausible that a defective cable or a loose plug connection is the root cause. Have you inspected the relevant wiring harnesses and connectors for any signs of damage or corrosion?
