Thanks for the insight. Work has not been done recently on any of the mentioned systems. What was the ultimate cause in your case? Did the ABS light remain constantly on?

Yes, ABS light was always on. Turned out it was a defective control unit as you suspected. Best bet is to get it checked by a workshop with the right diagnostic equipment. Sadly it did cost me around 1000€.

Appreciate the confirmation. That seals it for me. Booking it in for a check. Sounds like I'm in for a similar repair bill, at least I know roughly what to expect.

I've got a CT200h and had similar ABS issues. Did the problems start after any work on the vehicle stability or electronic stability systems? Maybe check wheel alignment before going too deep.
