Lexus ES Battery Keeps Dying

My 2005 Lexus ES with a gasoline engine is giving me fits. The battery keeps dying, I'm getting a weird error message in the speedometer, and the lights are flickering. When I try to start it, the battery is super weak. I pulled the codes and there's an error stored related to low voltage. I've checked the battery terminals and they seem clean. Could it be a charging issue? I'm so frustrated!

The symptoms you describe suggest a potential issue with the battery sensor. Has the battery been load tested? Can you confirm the error code stored in the memory?

I haven't had the battery load tested yet, but the error code that keeps popping up is B1242 - Low Battery Voltage. Does that confirm your suspicion about the battery sensor?

Error code B1242 indeed points towards a battery sensor malfunction or a related circuit problem. Considering the age of the vehicle and the mileage, a failing sensor is plausible. I recommend consulting a qualified workshop for diagnosis and replacement.

I took it to a local shop, and you were spot on – it was the battery sensor. They replaced it, and the total bill came to 315€. Everything seems to be working perfectly now. I really appreciate you pointing me in the right direction!
