Thank you for your response! The idler pulley seems fine, no unusual noises emanating from it. The serpentine belt appears to be in good condition as well. Could you elaborate on the specific symptoms you experienced with your ES when you encountered this issue?

Yep, same symptoms, belt handover failing. Just get the belt tensioner checked at a workshop.

Much obliged for the insight. I suspected as much. After your confirmation, I took it to a trusted mechanic, and indeed, the belt tensioner was defective, just as you suggested. Repair cost 455€. Problem solved!

I had a similar problem on my ES. Is the idler pulley making noise? Check the serpentine belt too.
