Lexus ES Power Steering Failure

I've got a problem with my 2004 Lexus ES with a gasoline engine. The power steering seems to be failing. I'm getting a vibrating steering wheel and spongy handling. I also scanned for errors and found one stored. When driving, the steering requires more effort, almost like the power steering isn't working at all. I suspect it's related to a defective cable or plug connection. Has anyone else experienced this?

I also own a Lexus ES, though not the same year as yours, and I had similar symptoms recently. The vibrating steering wheel and increased steering effort are concerning. Did the error code point to anything specific within the steering system, perhaps related to the steering column or steering rack? Also, have you checked the pressure hose for any visible leaks or damage?

The error code wasn't very specific, unfortunately, and I have only checked the plug connections. You mentioned the steering rack and pressure hose. Were those the source of your problem? If so, could you provide more details?

While I didn't have the exact same error code, the symptoms you described are very similar to what I experienced. Given the potential complexity of the electric steering system and the error code you received, I would advise having a trusted workshop inspect the system thoroughly. It's prudent to have a professional diagnose it to avoid further complications. Ignoring such symptoms can be risky. I eventually found a cable or plug connection was defective.

Thanks for the advice. I had a workshop check the car and it turned out to be a defective cable or plug connection, just as suspected. The repair cost me 95€. At least it wasn't anything major.
