Thanks. When you had these symptoms, were the misfires consistent across all cylinders, or just on one bank? And was a bad crankshaft sensor the actual cause?

I didn't get into the cylinder-specific data, but yes, for me the defective crank sensor caused all that grief. Honestly, based on your description it sounds very familiar. I suggest getting it checked at a reputable workshop. You'll save time and probably some nerves too.

The crankshaft sensor was indeed the problem. The repair was about 340€. Replacing the sensor fixed everything, and the engine is back to normal.

I had a very similar experience with my GS. The symptoms sound almost identical. Have you checked for any misfire codes? The engine synchronization could be off, and that might be related to the timing chain as well. However, given what you've described, that crank sensor is very suspect.
