Lexus GS Fuel Pump Issue

Hi, I'm having trouble with my 2017 Lexus GS with a gasoline engine. It's got about 248684 km on it. Recently, it's been struggling to start, and sometimes it stalls when idling. The check engine light is on, and the engine runs pretty rough. I've also noticed my fuel consumption is higher than usual. I scanned it, and there's an error stored related to the fuel pump. Could a defective fuel pump cause all these problems? I checked the connections, and they seem fine.

Summary of the thread

A 2017 Lexus GS owner reported issues with starting, stalling, rough engine performance, and increased fuel consumption, accompanied by a check engine light. An error code indicated a potential fuel pump problem. It was suggested to check the voltage at the fuel pump connector, as a defective cable or plug could be the cause. Upon professional inspection, the issue was confirmed to be a faulty connection, which was repaired, resolving the problem.

Did this summary help you solve your problem?

I had a similar issue with my GS, though I didn't check the error codes myself. Are you sure about the connections? Have you checked the voltage at the pump?

Thanks for the quick response! I visually inspected the cable and plug, but I haven't actually tested the voltage at the pump itself. Is that a common point of failure?

Yes, it is. The error code and symptoms do indicate a fuel pump issue. However, before replacing the entire pump, I would strongly recommend measuring the voltage at the pump connector during operation. If there's no voltage, or unstable voltage, you likely have a wiring or connector problem. But, since you have no experience, it would be best to have a workshop check it.

Thanks a lot for the insight! I took your advice and brought it to a local mechanic. Turns out, it was indeed a defective cable or plug connection to the fuel pump, just as you suspected. The repair cost was only 95€. You saved me a ton of money and hassle!
