Lexus GS Hybrid MAF Sensor Issue
Summary of the thread
A 2012 Lexus GS hybrid is experiencing high fuel consumption, engine stalling, a check engine light, and visible smoke during acceleration. Initial diagnostics suggest a defective MAF sensor as the potential cause. Replacing the MAF sensor is recommended, as it could resolve the issues, but a professional assessment is advised to rule out other underlying problems.

Thank you for your input. When you experienced similar issues with your Volvo, did replacing the MAF sensor resolve the problem entirely, or were there other underlying factors? I'm trying to gauge whether a simple sensor replacement will suffice or if a more comprehensive diagnostic assessment is warranted.

Yeah, swapping the MAF sensor fixed it for me. But honestly, given all your symptoms, especially the smoke, I'd get it checked by a professional. Could be other things too. Best to be safe.

Understood. I appreciate the advice. I took it to a local shop, and they confirmed the MAF sensor was defective. The replacement cost came to 365€. Hopefully, this resolves the performance decline and poor fuel economy.

Hey, those symptoms sound rough. I had something similar happen with my old Volvo S60. Check engine light, poor fuel economy, the works. Could definitely be the MAF sensor messing with the air-fuel ratio. Have you checked for any obvious air intake leaks?
