Lexus GS Hybrid Power Loss and Electrical Issues
Summary of the thread
A 2016 Lexus GS hybrid is experiencing power loss, warning lights, starting difficulties, and flickering lights. These issues may be caused by a faulty generator, which can lead to voltage fluctuations, battery drainage, and electrical malfunctions. The recommended solution is to have the generator inspected and repaired by a qualified mechanic, as it is likely the root cause of the problems.

Voltage drops, huh? Now that you mention it, yeah, I have noticed the voltage fluctuating a bit. I haven't checked the battery specifically, but could a dodgy generator really cause all these problems? And could it also be the reason why the car won't start?

Yep, a faulty generator can absolutely cause all those issues. It's responsible for charging the battery and providing power to all the electrical components while the engine is running. If it's not working properly, the battery can drain, leading to starting problems, power loss, and flickering lights. And yes, it also generates a warning light and can store errors in the memory. I'd recommend getting it checked out by a qualified mechanic, as it's not something you can easily fix yourself. I ended up paying around 850€ for the repair, but it was worth it to get my car running smoothly again.

Thanks a lot for sharing your experience! I really appreciate the advice. I think I'll take it to the shop and have them check the generator. Sounds like that's the most likely culprit. It was indeed the generator, and cost me 960€, but at least it's sorted now.

Sounds frustrating! I had a similar issue with my old 2012 Audi A6. Reduced power, weird electrical issues, the whole shebang. Did you notice any voltage drops? Have you checked the battery? In my case, it turned out to be a defective generator. The car's electronics were going haywire because of it. Is your car still under warranty?
