Lexus GS Intermittent Starting Issue

Hey, I'm having trouble with my 2007 Lexus GS with a gasoline engine. It's got about 223762 km on the clock. Lately, it's been acting super weird. Sometimes it just won't start, like the ignition is completely dead. Other times, it starts fine but then shuts off randomly while I'm driving! And if I manage to keep it running, the engine sounds super rough, like it's about to die. I checked the fuses, but I couldn't find any that were obviously blown. Any ideas what could be causing this? I'm pulling my hair out here!

Hello there. I also own a Lexus GS, and I experienced similar symptoms not too long ago. Have you checked the ignition switch itself? It may be defective, causing the intermittent starting and stalling issues you're describing.

Hey, thanks for the quick reply! When you say "ignition switch", do you mean the part where you physically insert the key? Is there a way to test it, or is it something I should just replace?

Yes, I am referring to the assembly where the key is inserted. Unfortunately, without specialized tools, it's difficult to test the ignition switch effectively. Given the symptoms you've described, a faulty switch is plausible. It is advisable to take your Lexus to a trusted workshop for a proper diagnosis.

Took your advice and brought my GS to the workshop. Turns out it was a defective fuse related to the ignition switch, just like you suspected! 52€ later, and she's running like a champ again. Thanks a million for pointing me in the right direction!
