Lexus GX oil pressure warning and engine noise

I'm writing about a potential issue with my 2019 Lexus GX gasoline engine, which has 138463 km. Recently, the oil pressure warning lamp has come on, with loud mechanical noises from the engine. I changed the oil, but the problem is still there. Could this be a defect in the oil pump?

That sounds worrying. I had a similar issue with my old BMW, but it was a diesel. The oil pressure light kept coming on, especially when the engine was warm. Did you check the oil pressure sensor? It might be faulty and giving you a false reading.

Thanks. I haven't checked the oil pressure sensor yet. Could a bad sensor really cause the loud mechanical noises, or are those noises more likely from low oil pressure?

Well, in my case, the noises weren't as loud as you describe. With those symptoms, and since you've already changed the oil, it might be more than just a sensor. Best to get it checked out by a workshop before things get worse.
