Lexus IS Active Air Flap Fault
Summary of the thread
A 2019 Lexus IS with a gasoline engine is experiencing a check engine light and overheating issues, attributed to an active air flap fault. The active air flaps, which regulate airflow for engine temperature and aerodynamics, are suspected to have a defective electromechanism. The recommended solution is to replace the faulty flap motor assembly to prevent further damage, as confirmed by a similar case where the repair was successfully completed at a workshop.

Yes, exactly! Everything points to the electromechanism being defective. Did you end up replacing the whole assembly? What was the damage to your wallet?

Ah, I see. I didn't mess with it myself. Took it straight to a workshop. Turned out the flap motor was indeed kaput. They replaced the whole thing. Best to get it sorted before you risk more damage.

Thanks for the advice! I took it to my local mechanic, and you were right; the electromechanism on the active air flap was defective. It cost me 590€ to get it fixed, parts and labor included. Appreciate the help!

Hey, I drive an IS too and had something similar happen a while back. Check engine light and overheating, yeah sounds familiar. Was the fault code related to the flap motor or something?
