Lexus IS Gear Shift Indicator Issue

Hi, I've got a 2011 Lexus IS diesel and the gear shift indicator on the dash is playing up big time. It's got 126000km on the clock. Basically, it's not possible to engage the gears sometimes, and when it does work, the automatic transmission shifts really weirdly. It feels like it's slipping, and the shifts are really unclean. Sometimes I even hear grinding noises. Plus, there's an error stored, and the gear selection display in the speedometer just doesn't work. Could it be a sensor problem or something with the digital display? Any ideas?

I had a similar issue with my IS a while back. Exact same symptoms: dodgy shifting, grinding, the whole nine yards. It was driving me crazy trying to figure it out. Does the error code point to anything specific?

Thanks for the reply! No, the error code is not specific. Do you remember what was wrong with your car?

Yeah, turns out it was a defective control unit. Not cheap, but it sorted the problem completely. I'd suggest getting it checked out by a workshop. Cost me around 1000€ to get fixed.

Thanks a lot for the info! I really appreciate it. Looks like I'll be booking it into the workshop then. Hopefully, it's just the control unit like yours was.
