Lexus IS Headlight Range Control Fault

Hey, I'm having a weird issue with my 2015 Lexus IS hybrid. It's got about 82k km on it. I'm getting a headlight range control fault. The error is stored, and the warning light is on the dash. The low beams are either pointing way too low or way too high, which is obviously a problem. I suspect it might be a defective servomotor in the headlight unit itself. Has anyone else run into this?

Summary of the thread

A 2015 Lexus IS hybrid is experiencing a headlight range control fault, causing the low beams to misalign. The issue might stem from a defective servomotor within the headlight unit. Another possibility is a faulty sensor affecting the auto-leveling system. It is recommended to have the vehicle inspected at a workshop to accurately diagnose and resolve the problem. Ultimately, the servomotor was identified as the cause and replaced, resolving the issue.

Did this summary help you solve your problem?

Sounds familiar. I had a similar problem with my 2017 Audi A4. Also got the headlight malfunction warning. Do your headlights have auto-leveling? On mine, it turned out the sensor that controls the auto-leveling had gone bad, which messed up the whole system. Is the light intensity also affected?

Yeah, they do have auto-leveling. So, if it's not the servomotor, are you saying it could be the control module itself? Where is that module located, by the way?

On my Audi, the control module was fine; the sensor was the culprit. But, yeah, a faulty module is possible too. Honestly, diagnosing it without proper tools is tricky. I'd suggest getting it checked at a workshop to pinpoint the exact cause. They'll be able to test the servomotors, sensors, and module properly. It's a pain, I know.

Thanks for the insight. I suspected as much. I'll take it in to get checked out. Just got the final bill: 1040€. Turns out it was the servomotor like I thought. At least it's fixed now.
