Lexus IS Hybrid Transmission Problems

Alright, gearheads, I'm pulling my hair out here. My 2018 Lexus IS hybrid (47681 km on the clock) is throwing a fit. The transmission is acting like a toddler refusing to share toys. Specifically, the paddle shifters are completely unresponsive, and the gearbox is slipping and shifting like it's coated in butter. Sometimes, I even get these awful grinding noises, especially during what should be smooth gear changes. Paddle shifters respond slower than a sloth on sedatives, and the car even went into emergency mode the other day. I scanned it, and surprise, surprise, an error code related to the transmission control unit popped up. I'm guessing a defective control unit is to blame. I have a feeling that the repair is going to cost me a fortune. Anyone else experiencing this?

Sounds rough! I had a similar experience with my old Volvo V60. Paddle shifters went haywire, and the whole transmission felt 'off.' Is it safe to say that shifting feels like trying to stir concrete with a wet noodle?

The wet noodle analogy is spot-on! What exactly was the issue with your Volvo, and how did you resolve it?

Turned out to be a faulty transmission control module (TCM). Symptoms were almost identical to yours. Sadly, I couldn't fix it myself. My advice is to bite the bullet and get it diagnosed by a reputable workshop, and, if it is the TCM, get it replaced. There is not much to do yourself on this issue.

Thanks for the info! I was hoping it wouldn't come to this, but I suspected as much. I booked it into the local Lexus dealership. They confirmed it's a defective transmission control unit, and the estimated repair cost is 1000€. Ouch! At least I know what's going on now. Appreciate the help!
