Lexus IS intake manifold issue

I'm experiencing an issue with my 2013 Lexus IS diesel, now at 230388 km. It seems I'm dealing with an intake manifold flap control problem, manifesting as reduced engine power, rough running, and a jerking sensation during acceleration. There's also a loud hissing sound when I put my foot down, coupled with noticeably higher fuel consumption. Given these symptoms, I suspect a defective intake manifold control switch, but I'm keen to hear if anyone has further insight.

That sounds frustrating. I had similar symptoms with my old Vauxhall Astra - reduced power, rough idle, and what felt like a hesitation when accelerating. Though mine wasn't a hissing sound. Is your engine light on? Have you checked for error codes? Could be anything from a vacuum leak to a faulty sensor. Let me know what you find.

Yes, the engine light lit up a while ago. I scanned for codes and it pointed towards the intake manifold flap control. Did your Vauxhall's error code also pinpoint the intake manifold, or was it more generic?

Right, my Astra flagged a generic 'engine performance' code initially. Turned out a broken flap inside the intake manifold itself was creating havoc - workshop visit was the only real path forward for me. Given your Lexus's code is specific, it's probably worth getting it checked professionally before you start throwing parts at it. Could save you some money and grief in the long run.

Thanks for sharing your Astra experience; it's helpful to hear a similar issue. I took it to the shop, and you were spot-on. The intake manifold flap control switch was indeed defective. The repair, including parts and labor, came to 465€. Runs like new now.
