Lexus IS Jerking Acceleration

Timing belt is a good point! I haven't checked that in ages. But misfires, really? Wouldn't that be a separate, distinct code? How would that relate?

Misfires can indeed trigger specific codes, but an exhaust leak could also lead to readings the ECU interprets as misfires, influencing timing and fuel delivery. It's all interconnected. Given the age and symptoms, it's difficult to pinpoint the exact cause without a proper diagnosis. I suggest taking it to a workshop; they can perform tests and pinpoint the issue. It could be something simple, but it's best to be sure.

Took it to the shop, and you were spot on with the exhaust leak idea! Turns out there was a crack. Cost me 265€ to get it fixed. Runs smooth as butter now. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction!

Okay, a jerking sensation upon acceleration accompanied by a check engine light on a 2000 Lexus IS could point to a few things. While the fuel pump is a possibility, let's not rule out other culprits. Have you considered issues with the ignition coils or spark plugs? An engine misfire could cause similar symptoms. Have you checked for error codes? Also, when was the timing belt last changed?
