Lexus IS power steering failure
Summary of the thread
A 2017 Lexus IS experienced power steering issues, including a vibrating steering wheel, spongy handling, and increased steering effort, accompanied by an error code. The problem was suspected to be a defective cable or plug connection in the electric power steering system. After scanning the vehicle, it was confirmed that a defective plug connection was the cause, and the repair was completed for 95€.

Thanks! I forgot to mention this IS has electric power steering, so there's no fluid reservoir. The wheel alignment hasn't been checked recently, but could a misaligned wheel cause an intermittent failure and a stored error code?

Ah, electric steering, right. The stored error code is key. Sounds like a failing sensor or a bad connection. Get it scanned at a workshop. Could be a cheap fix, could be worse. Don't ignore it.

I had the vehicle scanned. It was a defective plug connection in the power steering system. The repair, including diagnostics and parts, cost 95€. Thanks for the help!

Vibrating wheel and spongy feel? That's not good. Did you check the power steering fluid level? Has the wheel alignment been checked recently? A bad alignment can cause steering issues.
