Lexus IS Transmission Issue

I'm having trouble with my 2006 Lexus IS with a gasoline engine. The transmission indicator and check engine lights are on. The automatic transmission seems stuck in emergency mode and isn't shifting correctly. I'm experiencing slippage and unclean shifts, with grinding noises when it tries to change gears. I scanned the car and got an error related to radiator oil pressure, so I suspect a defective cable or plug connection. Has anyone run into something similar?

I had a similar experience with my Lexus IS. The transmission light, rough shifting, and emergency mode sound familiar. Have you checked the radiator coolant level recently? Low coolant can sometimes cause the transmission to overheat. Also, is the cooling fan operating correctly? If the engine's running hot, that could also be a factor.

Thanks! I did check the coolant level; it seemed fine. I haven't specifically checked the cooling fan operation, but the temperature gauge hasn't indicated any overheating. Do you recall the error code you had? And did it also point to radiator oil pressure?

If the coolant level is correct and the temperature gauge is normal, then overheating might not be the primary cause, though it's still worth verifying the cooling fan. I don't remember the specific error code, and I didn't get the radiator oil pressure error. Given your 'radiator oil pressure' error message, I'd take it to a mechanic who specializes in Lexus vehicles. They'll have the diagnostic tools and expertise to pinpoint the exact problem and give you an accurate estimate.

I appreciate the advice. It was indeed a defective cable connection to the radiator pressure sensor, like I originally suspected. The repair cost me about 95€, including the diagnosis and cable replacement. Problem solved!
