Lexus IS VANOS Issue

Hey, I've got a 2006 Lexus IS diesel with about 50000 km. The check engine light is on, and my fuel consumption has gone up. It might be the inlet VANOS, maybe a camshaft solenoid valve or a power issue. Anyone seen this before?

I had similar issues with my 2012 Audi A4 – check engine light and more fuel. It was the VANOS system. Any other problems, like misfires or less power at low RPMs? Those often come with VANOS issues.

Yeah, I've noticed a slight hesitation when I accelerate, feels like a small power drop. Was your Audi fix pretty easy? Did they know it was the VANOS right away, or did they have to check other stuff first?

The codes on my Audi pointed to the VANOS pretty fast, but finding the exact problem, a bad solenoid valve, took more testing. Sounds like your Lexus could have a VANOS problem too. I'd get it checked by a good mechanic. A bad VANOS can mess with the timing chain, and if you don't fix it, it could cause bigger problems. Hope you get it sorted.

I took it to a workshop, and they said the inlet camshaft solenoid valve was bad and needed to be replaced. Cost about 250€ for everything. Thanks for the help!
