Lexus LFA high fuel consumption and stalling
Summary of the thread
A 2012 Lexus LFA was experiencing high fuel consumption, occasional stalling, and a check engine light, with smoke upon acceleration. The suspected cause was a defective mass air flow (MAF) sensor, supported by lean condition codes P0171 and P0174. Replacing the MAF sensor resolved the issues, confirming it as the root cause.

I'm getting P0171 and P0174, indicating a lean condition on both banks. I inspected the air intake, but found nothing amiss. Did a new MAF sensor resolve your issue, or were there other factors?

Those lean codes definitely point towards a MAF sensor issue. While it could be something else causing the lean condition, the MAF sensor is the most likely culprit given your symptoms. Replacing the sensor solved the problem entirely for me. The fact that you have lean codes on both banks further supports the suspicion of a bad MAF sensor. I'd recommend taking it to a reputable workshop with experience on high-performance vehicles like the LFA. They'll be able to diagnose the problem with more certainty and ensure the repair is done correctly.

A new MAF sensor was indeed required. The local Lexus specialist confirmed that a defective mass air flow sensor was the root cause. The invoice came to 365€, but now she runs like a dream again. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction!

I had a similar issue with my LFA, although I can't recall the exact mileage when it happened. Higher fuel consumption, engine stalling, and the check engine light – sounds like a potential MAF sensor failure. Have you checked the air intake system for obstructions or leaks? A faulty sensor can throw off the air-fuel ratio. What codes are you getting?
