Lexus LS Hybrid MAF Sensor Issue
Summary of the thread
A 2023 Lexus LS hybrid exhibited increased fuel consumption, stalling at idle, a check engine light, and smoke from the exhaust, suggesting a mass air flow (MAF) sensor issue. Initial advice included checking the air filter, which was found to be clean. The problem was confirmed to be a defective MAF sensor by a Lexus workshop, and replacing it resolved the issues.

Thanks, I checked the air filter, and it looks fine. Can you tell me more about the MAF meter issue you had with your Lexus LS? What diagnostic codes did you get, and what did you do to fix it?

Yes, the diagnostic code pointed to the MAF sensor. Given your other symptoms, it sounds like the likely issue. If the air filter is clean, it's probably the sensor. Honestly, just take it to a good Lexus mechanic. They can confirm and replace the sensor. It cost me about 365€ for the sensor and labor.

Thanks for the advice. I took it to a Lexus workshop, and they confirmed it was a defective mass air flow sensor. They replaced it, and that fixed the fuel consumption, stalling, and smoke. The cost was about what you said. Thanks again!

I haven't had the smoke issue, but your symptoms sound like a problem I had. The increased fuel economy and engine stalling are classic signs. Before you replace the MAF, check your air filter. A clogged filter can cause similar problems by restricting airflow. It's a simple check.
