Lexus LS transmission fault

I have a 2015 Lexus LS hybrid with 93561 km. The engine warning light came on, and sometimes the transmission warning light as well. A diagnostic shows a fault related to the transmission oil temperature sensor. The gearbox occasionally goes into emergency mode, and there's some slipping and unclean shifting, occasionally even some grinding noises when shifting. Could a low gearbox oil level cause this?

I had a similar experience with my 2012 Audi A6. Engine warning light and gearbox in emergency mode. The error memory also reported a faulty transmission sensor. In my case it was possibly due to the gearbox oil level being too low. Have you checked the oil level?

No, I haven't checked the oil level yet. Is it something easily checked on the Lexus LS hybrid, or does it require special tools or a trip to a mechanic? Did checking/topping off the oil resolve the issue for you?

Checking the level on the Audi requires a specific procedure and tools to ensure the correct level. Given the symptoms you describe and the potential complexity of the Lexus hybrid transmission, I would recommend taking it to a reputable workshop to have the oil level checked and the sensor inspected. It's best to avoid potential damage to the transmission. However, as the oil level was indeed too low, this resolved the issue for me.

Okay, thanks for the advice. I'll book it in with a local garage to get the transmission oil level checked and the sensor looked at. The garage confirmed the oil level was indeed low, and the sensor was faulty. The repair came to 365€.
