Lexus LX AC Not Working

My 2002 Lexus LX with a gasoline engine AC isn't working. The air conditioning no longer cools, and the system doesn't even switch on when I press the AC button. A warning light has appeared, and I scanned an error code related to the refrigerant compressor. Refrigerant levels seem okay. Could a defective AC control unit really be the cause? Mileage is at 230031 km.

That sounds familiar. I encountered a similar problem on my old 2014 BMW 3 Series. The symptoms were almost identical – AC not cooling, warning lights, and compressor errors. Before tearing everything apart, have you checked the basics like the AC compressor relay and the pressure sensor? Sometimes, it's just a simple electrical issue causing the compressor to not engage. In my case, the diagnostic pointed to a faulty compressor, but it turned out to be a corroded connector on the control module. Saved me a fortune!

Thank you for the quick response! I haven't checked the AC compressor relay or the pressure sensor yet. Where exactly are those located on the Lexus LX? Also, how did you narrow it down to the corroded connector on your BMW? Did you use a multimeter to test for voltage?

I am not familiar with the precise location of those components on your Lexus. A repair manual should have diagrams. As for my BMW, the mechanic initially wanted to replace the entire compressor. I insisted they thoroughly check the wiring harness and connections first, given some pre-existing electrical gremlins I'd experienced. They used a multimeter and a wiring diagram and discovered the corroded connector, causing intermittent signal loss. It's certainly worth having a workshop investigate, and explain to them your suspicion about the electrical connections.

Thank you so much for your help! I'll check the relay and pressure sensor location in the repair manual and then take it to a trusted shop. I'll tell them to inspect all the wiring and connectors before condemning the compressor or the control unit. That should hopefully save me some money! I'll report back with the resolution. The control unit was indeed defective. Repair cost was 980€
