Lexus LX Radar Sensor Malfunction

My 2017 Lexus LX diesel has a radar sensor malfunction at 32679 km. I'm getting an error message and warning light in the speedometer, an error stored in the memory, and it's causing failures of other systems. I suspect a dirty sensor. Any thoughts before I dig deeper?

Summary of the thread

A 2017 Lexus LX diesel experienced a radar sensor malfunction at 32,679 km, causing error messages and system failures. The initial suspicion was a dirty sensor. After a visual inspection showed no obvious obstructions, the issue persisted consistently across different weather conditions. A professional diagnosis revealed the sensor was indeed dirty, and cleaning it resolved the problem, restoring all systems to normal.

Interesting issue. It's certainly plausible that a dirty sensor is the culprit, especially with modern radar-based safety systems being so sensitive. Before assuming the worst, have you visually inspected the sensor area for any obvious obstructions like mud, snow, or even a build-up of road grime? Also, are you experiencing this issue consistently, or does it seem to occur more frequently under specific weather conditions? Sometimes, even heavy rain can temporarily interfere with radar functionality. Considering the integrated nature of these systems, any disruption can cascade into other failures, as you're experiencing. Has the vehicle been involved in any minor impacts recently that might have misaligned the sensor?

Thanks, good points. I've visually checked for obstructions, nothing obvious. It's fairly consistent, regardless of weather. No impacts. Could a simple recalibration potentially resolve a misalignment issue, assuming there is one?

While visual inspection is a good starting point, it's worth noting that even a thin film of grime can sometimes impede the sensor's performance. Regarding recalibration: yes, it's possible, if a minor misalignment is the root cause. However, without diagnostic tools, it's tough to definitively say whether recalibration is necessary or if the sensor itself is faulty. Given the complexity and interconnectedness of the LX's safety systems, and the persistence of the error, a professional diagnosis at a workshop equipped with the appropriate tools is advisable. They can perform a proper scan to determine the exact fault and whether it's a simple fix or a more involved repair.

Appreciate the advice. Took it to the workshop; turns out the sensor was just dirty. Cleaning and a quick check cost 45€. All systems nominal now.
