Lexus NX Keyless Entry Issues

I'm officially stressed. I have a 2022 Lexus NX with a gasoline engine, and things are going haywire. A few weeks ago, I got an error. The remote to unlock or lock the doors started acting up; sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. Now, I can't start the car without physically putting the key in the ignition! I read online that it might be something with the bumper antenna, like a defective cable or plug. Anyone else experience anything like this? I'm at 130083 km, and super worried about a huge repair bill. What do you think?

Whoa, that sounds like a proper headache! I had something similar happen with my old Renault Megane, although it wasn't exactly the same. My keyless entry and start started playing up after a minor fender-bender. Turns out, the impact had messed with the antenna connection in the bumper. The weird thing was, it took a while for the problems to surface. Did you have any work done recently on the car, especially around the bumper?

That's interesting! I haven't had any accidents or repairs recently, which is what makes it so strange. The problems just sort of appeared out of nowhere. When you say 'antenna connection,' are we talking about the same antenna that's used for the radio, or is it something completely different? And how did you figure out it was the antenna in the first place?

Good question! In my Renault, it was a separate antenna specifically for the keyless entry and start system, not the radio antenna. I only figured it out because the mechanic ran a diagnostic check and pinpointed it. Honestly, with all the electrical stuff going on in modern cars, it's hard to diagnose these things yourself unless you have the right tools. Given your Lexus' symptoms and the error message you mentioned, the antenna issue seems like a real possibility. I'd advise taking it to a reputable workshop to get it checked out properly.

Thanks a lot for the info! I feel a bit better knowing it could be something relatively straightforward, even though it's annoying. I'll book it in with a local shop and see what they say. It turns out you were right! I took it to the workshop, and they confirmed it was a defective cable at the bumper antenna. Repair cost me 95€, but at least everything is working again now!
