Lexus NX Low Coolant
Summary of the thread
A 2023 Lexus NX hybrid exhibited a check engine light due to low coolant levels, despite no visible leaks. Possible causes include air pockets in the cooling system or issues with the cooling fan running excessively. The suggested solution was to have a professional technician inspect the vehicle, which led to topping off the coolant, checking for air pockets, and pressure testing the system, resolving the issue.

Thanks for the quick reply! The fan does seem to be running more than usual, now that I think about it. Haven't seen any actual overheating, though. By burp do you mean trying to bleed the system myself? I'm not sure what the error code is, just know it mentioned low coolant. Should I take it to a shop?

Affirmative, by burping I am referring to the manual removal of air pockets from the cooling system. Given your lack of familiarity with the diagnostic process and the potential for consequential engine damage, my professional recommendation would be to present your vehicle to a qualified technician for comprehensive analysis and subsequent remediation. It's imperative to ensure that the cooling system's integrity is preserved to prevent more extensive and costly repairs.

Appreciate the advice. Took it to the shop, and you were right – no obvious leaks, but the coolant was low. They topped it off, checked for air pockets, and pressure tested everything. Ended up costing me 52€ but the light's off, and hopefully, it's sorted! Thanks again!

I own an NX as well. I seem to remember something similar happening to me. Was the cooling fan running excessively, and did you notice any signs of potential engine overheating, even minor ones? Furthermore, have you attempted to burp the system to eliminate potential air pockets? The behavior of the water pump could also provide some clues. What are the specifics regarding the error code? That may prove beneficial for proper diagnostics.
