Lexus NX VANOS and Fuel Consumption
Summary of the thread
A 2014 Lexus NX owner reported a check engine light and increased fuel consumption, suspecting a faulty Inlet VANOS. The issue was confirmed to be related to a VANOS solenoid defect, which can cause such symptoms. After replacing the faulty solenoid, the check engine light turned off, and fuel consumption returned to normal.

I haven't noticed a significant decrease in power. Where exactly should I check for oil sludge?

Given the symptoms, a VANOS solenoid defect or power supply problem seems likely. The oil sludge would be visible when inspecting the solenoid valve. I recommend taking it to a workshop for diagnostics. The repair will likely be in the range of 250€.

Thanks for confirming. I took it to a workshop, and it was indeed a faulty VANOS solenoid. Replaced it, and the engine light is now off, and fuel consumption is back to normal.

Possible. High fuel consumption and CEL activation often occur due to VANOS solenoid issues. Has engine power also decreased? Did you check for oil sludge?
