Lexus RC check engine light and exhaust fumes
Summary of the thread
A 2020 Lexus RC hybrid displayed a check engine light with an error code indicating NOx storage catalyst aging, accompanied by occasional exhaust fumes. This issue could be related to a small exhaust leak, which can affect sensor readings and trigger the error code. It was suggested to check for exhaust leaks, particularly near the catalytic converter, and upon inspection at a workshop, a small leak was found and repaired, resolving the problem.

Thanks! A drop in fuel efficiency, huh? I hadn't really paid attention, but now that you mention it, I think it's a little worse than usual. Where exactly should I be looking for these exhaust leaks? I'm not super mechanically inclined.

Honestly, unless you're comfortable getting under the car and know what you're looking for, I'd just take it to a workshop. It's probably a small crack somewhere in the exhaust system before or near the catalytic converter. It's better to get it sorted before it causes more damage. I did exactly that, and it solved my problem.

Alright, I hear you. I'll take it to the shop. Thanks for the tip! Turns out it WAS a small leak in the exhaust system. Cost me 265€ to fix, but at least the light is gone and the exhaust smell is gone as well!

I had something similar with my RC. Check for exhaust leaks first. A small crack can mess with the readings from the sensors and trigger the catalyst aging code. Do you notice any drop in fuel efficiency?
