Fuel efficiency seems normal, but it feels sluggish. Could a bad sensor cause that too? I thought sensors just caused lights to come on, not impact performance!

Yes, a defective exhaust back pressure sensor can impact engine performance. The car's computer uses that sensor to manage vehicle emissions. I think you should visit a workshop.

Thanks! It was the exhaust back pressure sensor, like I suspected. Cost me 245€ to replace. Runs like new. Emission control is important but expensive!

That sounds frustrating! A faulty sensor can really mess with your vehicle emissions. Have you noticed any change in fuel efficiency or engine performance besides the smoke?
