Lexus RC Wastegate Defect

I'm pulling my hair out! I've got a 2016 Lexus RC with a gasoline engine and only 29k kilometers on the clock. Recently, the check engine light's been mocking me, and the car feels like it's lost half its mojo. I'm talking reduced engine power, laggy throttle response, and sometimes it even stalls at idle! My fuel consumption has gone through the roof too. To top it all off, there's this weird whistling sound, turning into a LOUD hissing when I put my foot down. I'm guessing it's something to do with the turbo or intercooler, maybe a boost leak? I've checked all the obvious hoses I could see but nothing jumps out. Any ideas before I end up selling a kidney to pay for repairs?

Sounds like a boost issue alright. That whistling/hissing is a classic symptom. Could be a wastegate valve problem, but it's hard to say for sure without proper diagnostics.

Wastegate, huh? I've heard of those. Is that something I can easily check myself, or am I going to need specialist tools to diagnose that properly?

Wastegate issues on these can be tricky. You might be able to spot something obvious, but honestly, with those symptoms, you're best off getting it checked by a workshop. Could save you money in the long run.

Yeah, I figured as much. Bit the bullet and took it in. You were spot on about the wastegate valve, apparently it had a defect. Cost me 860€ to get it fixed. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction!
