Lexus RX hybrid wastegate defect
Summary of the thread
A 2022 Lexus RX hybrid owner experienced a check engine light, reduced engine power, poor throttle response, stalling at idle, increased fuel consumption, and a whistling noise during acceleration. These symptoms suggested a potential issue with the boost pressure system, possibly an intercooler leak or a wastegate valve defect. After consulting with others, the owner took the vehicle to a workshop, where a defect in the wastegate valve was confirmed and repaired, resolving the issues.

Good analogy. I haven't had a chance to visually inspect everything yet, but I'll take a closer look. If it is the wastegate valve, what would be the best way to find out?

Okay, wastegate issues can be tricky. You'd need to check if it's opening and closing smoothly. Usually, you'd see a loss of power if it's stuck open, and maybe a pressure surge if it's stuck closed. Honestly, with those symptoms all pointing towards boost issues, I'd recommend getting it checked by a workshop. Playing around with the pressure system without the right tools is like trying to diffuse a bomb blindfolded!

Appreciate the advice. You were spot on. Took it to the shop, and it turned out to be a defect in the wastegate valve. Repair cost me about 860€. All good now, thanks!

Whoa, sounds rough! A hissing noise makes me think air leak, especially with the boost issues. Did you check for any obvious signs around the intercooler or any of the boost pipes? Is the hissing constant, or does it change with engine load? It's kinda like a balloon with a small hole, the more you inflate it, the louder the whistle gets!
