Lexus SC AC Compressor Failure
Summary of the thread
A 2002 Lexus SC experienced a complete loss of AC cooling, with diagnostics indicating a defective AC control unit. A suggestion was made to check the refrigerant pressure, as low levels can cause similar issues. After further inspection at a workshop, the problem was confirmed to be a defective AC compressor, leading to its replacement.

Thanks for the input. What were the specific refrigerant pressure readings you observed when the issue occurred? I have diagnostic tools and want to compare values to isolate the problem.

Unfortunately, I don't recall the exact pressure readings. However, the system was significantly undercharged. Considering the potential complexity of modern AC systems and the cost of components like the compressor, it may be a good idea to visit a workshop.

I took your advice and had the vehicle inspected by a workshop. The diagnosis confirmed a defective AC compressor. The repair, including parts and labor, amounted to approximately 980€. Thanks for the guidance.

I had a similar issue with my Lexus SC. The symptoms you describe are almost identical to what I experienced. Have you checked the refrigerant pressure? A low refrigerant level can sometimes trigger similar error codes and prevent the compressor from engaging. It might be worth investigating before assuming the control unit is faulty.
