Lexus SC Active Hood Fault

Hey, I'm hoping someone can help me with a weird issue on my 2002 Lexus SC with a gasoline engine. I keep getting an "Active hood fault" message popping up on the on-board computer. The airbag warning light is also on in the speedometer. I scanned for errors and something is stored in the error memory. I even hear what sounds like the spring actuators engaging sometimes. It's got 123507 km on the clock. Anyone have experience with this?

Sounds like a problem with the pedestrian safety system. Has the car been in any minor front-end collisions recently, or has anything impacted the front bumper?

No recent accidents or impacts that I know of. I bought it used a few years ago. Any idea what part of the system is throwing the error? And is it something I can fix myself?

Based on the symptoms and error message, a defective acceleration sensor is the most likely culprit. These sensors are part of the active hood system which is designed to pop the hood in a pedestrian collision. Replacing it usually resolves the issue, but it is crucial that the airbag system is working properly. Considering the airbags and pedestrian safety involvement, you should go to the workshop.

Thanks for the advice! I went to the workshop, and you were spot on; it was a defective acceleration sensor. Ended up costing 315€ to replace, but at least it's fixed. Appreciate the help!
