Lexus SC Coolant Loss
Summary of the thread
A 2004 Lexus SC owner is experiencing consistent coolant loss, triggering the check engine light and storing an error code. Despite checking for obvious leaks, none were found, leading to concerns about potential issues with the cooling fan, water pump, head gasket, engine overheating, or radiator cap. A suggestion to check for pinhole leaks in small hoses, especially near the engine block, was made, and a pressure test at a workshop revealed a leak in one of these hoses, which was then replaced.

Thanks for the insight! You mentioned pinhole leaks. Were they actually visible, or did you find them another way? I haven't noticed any sweet smells, but I'll keep an eye (and nose) out!

They were almost invisible! The mechanic found them by pressure testing the cooling system. It's worth a shot. Given it's a Lexus, I'd take it to a trusted workshop to get it checked out properly. Could save you a headache down the line.

Appreciate the advice. It turned out to be a leak in one of the smaller coolant hoses, just like you suggested! The workshop charged me 52€ to replace it. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction.

I had a similar issue with my old Volvo. Coolant disappearing act! Check the small hoses, especially those near the engine block; they can develop pinhole leaks that are hard to spot. Also, any strange smells, like a sweet odor after the engine warms up?
