Lexus SC Rough Engine Idle
Summary of the thread
A 2010 Lexus SC is experiencing rough engine idle, poor starting, stalling, and an illuminated check engine light at 103,513 km. The suspected cause is a faulty camshaft sensor or possibly the encoder wheel on the camshafts. Another suggestion is to check the crankshaft sensor and the wiring harness to the camshaft sensor, as these components can also contribute to the problem. The recommended solution is to have a professional workshop diagnose and repair the issue, as it may require specialized tools and expertise.

Thanks! I have not yet checked the crankshaft sensor, but I will. When you had the issue on your SC, were the symptoms intermittent at first, or were they consistently present? Trying to understand if this aligns with what you encountered.

Yep, intermittent at first, then it got worse pretty quick. If you suspect the camshaft encoder wheel, it's probably best left to a workshop to diagnose and fix properly. It can get tricky without the right tools and knowledge. I ended up paying around 700€ for a new sensor and the labor, so your 695€ estimate is probably spot on.

I appreciate the confirmation and advice. I will bring the car to a trusted workshop for inspection and repair. Based on your experience, I am now more confident in addressing the issue. Thank you!

Hey! I had something similar happen on my SC. Check engine light, stalling... pretty annoying. Did you happen to check the crankshaft sensor as well? Sometimes those two play together. I'd also take a peek at the wiring harness going to the camshaft sensor; those connectors can get brittle with age.
