Lexus SC Tailgate Hall Sensor Issue
Summary of the thread
A 2000 Lexus SC owner experienced issues with the automatic tailgate not opening completely, suspecting a sensor problem, possibly the hall sensor. After checking the fuses, which were fine, it was suggested to inspect the cable and plug connection to the sensor for any corrosion or damage. The issue was confirmed to be a faulty cable connection to the hall sensor, which was fixed at a local shop, resolving the problem.

Thanks for the tip! I have some basic tools, yeah. When you say 'check the wiring,' what exactly am I looking for? Any specific readings or signs of damage?

Look for any corrosion or damage to the wires and plugs. If you're not confident in diagnosing electrical issues, it might be best to take it to a workshop. They can pinpoint the problem quickly.

You were spot on! It was indeed the cable connection to the hall sensor. Took it to a local shop, they fixed the connection, and now it's working perfectly! Cost me 95€. Thanks a lot for your help!

Could be the hall sensor. Check the cable and plug connection to the sensor itself. A defective connection is a common cause. Do you have the tools to check the wiring?
